Snoop Would be Crazy NOT to Service Country Stations With My Medicine
So I’ve come to the conclusion that Larry King has tremendous pull with the non-rap listening audience. Forget the reality show, Snoop being on Larry King opened some brand new doors for him. People who wrote him off years ago as “just another gangsta rapper” caught him on Larry King and he obviously changed their minds.
I work with a lot of country music fans. These are NOT the type of people you’d expect to ask about Snoop Dogg. After the Larry King interview, I can’t tell you how many times they asked me if I had heard “that Medicine song” Snoop talked about. The last urban music these people have listened to was Yeah by Lil John and Usher: and they didn’t like it. I’d say a good 98% of them prefer country and rock. These are middle aged white people.
It would be CRAZY for Snoop not to send out My Medicine to country radio stations. There are six country stations up here to our one urban station. I listen to these country stations every once in a while and I can tell you that My Medicine would fit perfectly into their format. At 2:40, it’s long enough not to be a joke, but Snoop doesn’t overdo it either. Like Sexual Sensual Seduction, this song has the potential to introduce Snoop Dogg to a new group of people. These people haven’t heard of iTunes and still buy “LP’s” on a regular basis.

Unlike that abortion of a song Nelly did with Tim McGraw, Snoop’s My Medicine is the real deal. Instead of relying on the star power of an established country artist like Nelly did, Snoop crafted his own song in the country/rock style. It’s so outside the box that it works and I’ve got a feeling that it could open up new doors for Snoop.

The song was actually written and produced by Everlast …

Yep.
You can hear him singing in the background of the chorus if you listen real careful.

this track is crazy good! It doesn’t matter if Everlast put most of the creative juice into the song, Snoop gave it his unique touch and talk… I love the new direction Snoop is taking, much respected. Not even half of the rappers out there could do what Snoop- is doing, and he does it so well.,..!

I listen to all kinds of music and this was definately not country. just because you wear the clothes and sing with a country singer, it does not make it a country song. It’s a sad day for countyr of radio stations play this crap!
Terry Says: June 17th, 2008 at 10:42 am
NO, this is far from being even close to country music. The cloths, hats and hanging around stars like Willie do not make one a Country music star. I guess Snoop is trying to copy the good fortune of Kid Rock and Big Rich when they mixed rap with country, but in Snoop’s case he needs to do more singing and less rapping. (imho)

I was expecting an AMAZING song, but I was highly disappointed! He is speaking monotone while a country beat plays in the background! He can’t even hit the high notes without his voice cracking. I sure hope they DON’T play this on the country stations. I was an interesting “song” (if you can even call it that) and it was OK, but nothing great. I really don’t get what all the talk was about! That song wasn’t very cool…

Hey you supposely country lover actually for you guys this is actually country but iot does have alittle rythem in it like rock and rap country singers like toby keith , brad paisley put alittle rock and alittle rythem and into their song so why can’t snoop dogg This is actually a good song you guys just can’t get past the skin color you old hicks… so from a true country listener this song is tight snoop dogg you old hicks isn’t it time from uyou to die off so that younger generations can listen to their music w/o you old rednecks complaining all the fucking… and if your a young person complain well you might as well be 90 years old… I mean no disrespect it just pisses me off that a rap singer? black person is trying to reach over the line and make bring two cultures together and you thinks it sucks.. I know you guys didn’t even give it a second thought same goes to those rap listeners who think snoop dogg is stupid for doing this…. you guys who are trying to divide our country(usa) it’s not good diversity is always good if hate it b/c you just hate it then there is no problem but the way all you people come off like you hate diversity… fine then keep you mouths fucking shut… Now for my opinions its not the best song i heard but it isn’t the worst I commend snoop dogg for trying something new and honoring Johnny cash but I wouldn’t give him a award for the song but it is pretty tight I give it a 8 out of 10

Absentee - Victory Shorts | Smother Magazine Says: August 17th, 2008 at 7:58 am
[...] Not really sure what the album title is about? Well who cares, it’s all about great indie/alt. country damn it. The passion of indie music got it right, and so shall we. Easily an album that one can point towards the influence of Johnny Cash (those deep vocals are truly zany) and The Velvet Underground, “Victory Shorts” by Absentee is an album rich in romantic ideals and poor in easy to chew pop nuance for which we’re abundantly thankful. Produced, engineered, and mixed by Nick Terry whose recent notables include the Libertines and Bernard Butler, “Victory Shorts” is a mediation on the mind and body’s odd quirks via smart lyrics and careful composure. Great for those of you unsatisfied that the Cure isn’t making good music anymore who can’t stand that Snoop Dogg was allowed to remix Johnny Cash. [...]
