New West Spotlight: Bangloose

The West needs party music. We’ve got Gangsta Rap down pat. We’ve got a burgeoning backpack scene, plenty of swagger rappers and punchline rappers too. What we really need is high quality party music. The type of music where that makes you want to take a double shot of Grey Goose and hit the dance floor. Don’t’ get me wrong, there are plenty of rappers that make great party SONGS, but I’ve been waiting to hear a party ABLUM from a rapper. Enter Bangloose from Watts California.
Rapping mostly over music by Big Saccs (AKA Dazzie Dee) and Dem jointz, Bangloose has some of the nicest beats of any New West artist. Sounding right at home over robust beats, I’ve caught myself speeding in the whip one too many times while listening to So Fly, So Fresh. His music sounds large, exciting, and hard hitting. Perfect party music.
One of the reasons I like Bangloose so much is the fact that every song he puts out is properly mixed and mastered and you can count on them to hit properly in your ride. The bass hits correctly and the snares are tight as hell. Unlike some other New West artists, the songs Bangloose puts out DO NOT sound like they were recorded at your local swimming pool.
Bangloose’s laid back flow fits surprisingly well over the beats he chooses. With a great deal of swagger, Bangloose has great party raps; easy to sing along with music. Very catchy. Does Bangloose have the best flow? Nope, it’s decent though. Is Bangloose the greatest lyricist? Not by a long shot. But Bangloose knows how to make fun and memorable songs that set the party off. Thats a very important asset for an artist to have. I can’t wait to see what his album Rats and Roaches sounds like.
I’ve included a sampling of my favorite songs below. Be sure to show Bangloose some love and hit up his Myspace page if you enjoy the tracks.
First up is So Fly, So Fresh. It’s Bangloose’s current single. Here Bangloose lets his swagger loose and makes a feel good party song. I like how He uses the “Max Headroom” type effect on the chorus. This song sounds tight in a proper audio system. Don’t listen to this on your laptop if you want the full experience.
Next up is Grey Goose featuring a crazy ass sample from Fergie. This is the song that introduced me to Bangloose. Over a sparse, but hard hitting beat, Bangloose talks about picking up skeezas® at the bar after feeding them Grey Goose Vodka. Classy stuff. I love it.
Finally we’ve got a song called Introduction. I think this is the first song off his album Rats and Roaches, but I’ve been wrong before and I’ll be wrong again. It’s a great song featuring a clever Eazy-E sample. You’ve gotta hear it to appreciate it.
What I’d like to see from Bangloose:
More party songs
All new songs on Rats and Roaches (nothing thats currently on the internet)
An EP release of current tracks on Itunes or in mixtape form (Grey Goose, So fly so fresh, introduction, etc…)
More work with Big Saccs and Dem Jointz
More guest spots on oter artists songs to show versatility
A better website
